William Pickard 1768 - 1816 Married Elizabeth Hocking.
Married in Covelly Church on the 9th of October 1791.
William Died in 1816 at the age of 48 and buried in Clovelly.

Now this is where it gets interesting:
Elizabeth now in her late 50s had a child to Joseph Harvey a married man and Mariner also from Clovelly, the record shows that James Pickard was baptized in Bideford Union Poor House, the son of Joseph Harvey & Elizabeth Pickard on the 24th July 1825. This came as a shock as you can imagine, the descendant of a illegitimate Pauper,(well we all have to start somewhere). I am told that this was not at all unusual, when the spouse died many women ended up in the poor house.
Joseph Harvey Master Mariner Married to Maria. I have a load of history on his side of the family thanks to a chance meeting of one of his descendant's at Clovelly.
